Industrial Applications
For The LAN-Cell 3G/4G Cellular Router

SCADA / Telemetry / M2M / Remote Data Collection

Reliable Remote Unmanned Communications
The Proxicast LAN-Cell 3G/4G cellular router is ideal for remote telemetry, SCADA, device networking, machine-to-machine communication (M2M) and data collection applications. The LAN-Cell 3G/4G router includes special features for "unmanned" operation such as hardware watchdogs and scheduled system restarts to minimize the need for site visits. For truly remote applications, the LAN-Cell 3G/4G router can easily be powered by solar cells. Access your remote equipment via the Internet anywhere there is cellular coverage.

The LAN-Cell 3G/4G router can be configured to be "always connected" or to "connect on demand" to a Cellular Data Network (CDMA or GSM) or any Ethernet-based WAN (DSL, cable, T-1, satellite modem, etc.). Any of these interfaces can be designated as primary, with the other serving as a redundant back-up communication path. Fail-over to the back-up interface is automatic. Using either static IP addresses from the ISP (or the LAN-Cell’s Dynamic DNS feature), you can access any devices attached to the LAN-side of the remote LAN-Cell unit.

LAN-Cell M2M Applications
Here are just a few of the places our customers have deployed the LAN-Cell for M2M-based applications:
  • Water Treatment Facilities
  • Weather Stations
  • Oil & Gas Well Data Logging
  • Environmental Monitoring
  • Factory Automation
  • Vending Machines
  • Siesmic Monitoring
  • Building Automation
  • Power Substation Monitoring
  • Railway Trackside Sensors
  • Industrial Equipment Diagnostics
  • Automated Meter Reading (AMR)
Connect Multiple Remote Devices & Save
If you need to access more than one remote device per site, the LAN-Cell saves you thousands of dollars per year per site in communications costs by connecting several devices to its integrated 4-port 10/100 Ethernet switch. All LAN devices are accessible remotely via a single WAN connection (e.g. cellular account).

Ethernet-based devices can be connected natively to the LAN-Cell. Serial-based systems can be easily interfaced with an inexpensive serial-to-ethernet converter. You can even "mix & match" Ethernet and serial devices connected to the same LAN-Cell 3G/4G router.

Satellite Data Link Alternative
The LAN-Cell 3G/4G cellular router is also a great satellite data link alternative or backup for Low Earth Orbit - LEO (ORBCOMM, Iridium, Globalstar) and VSAT (HughesNet, Starband) satellite network sites. If you are currently using satellite links or considering satellite services, see our Satellite Alternative page to learn more about how Proxicast's LAN-Cell 3G/4G routers can save you money, increase your link speed and reduce packet latency.

LAN-Cell 3G/4G Router Advantages

Presentation: Naked on the Internet - Securing Cellular Data Communications

Security concerns are often overlooked when deploying remote communications using cellular broadband data networks. Unlike analog telephone or point-to-point radio links, cellular data services expose remote equipment to all of the threats that are pervasive on the public Internet such as hackers, service attacks and viruses. Improperly secured cellular connections can not only compromise remote sites and data, but can also provide a “back-door” into secure corporate networks. This presentation explores common myths, misconceptions and vendor half-truths about the need for implementing enterprise-class security for all remote cellular data communications.

Case Study: Earthscope/PBO Saves Millions with the Proxicast LAN-Cell

UNAVCO's Earthscope/PBO project monitors siesmic and volcanic activity at over 1000 sites throughout the western U.S. and Alaska. The LAN-Cell Mobile Gateway saves them over a million dollars every year in communications costs. Earthscope/PBO was also awarded Qualcomm's prestigious cdmA-List award for their innovative cellular data network deployment based on Proxicast's LAN-Cell.  Press Release.

Need Only 1 Port or Very Low Power Draw?
Proxicast's ultra-small PocketPORT USB-Ethernet Bridge/Router connects a USB modem to any Ethernet capable device for instant Internet access.

The PocketPORT is tiny, simple to use and draws very little current. It includes advanced features such as dynamic DNS support, connection monitoring and keep-alive. Using 2 PocketPORTs in our unique "Virtual Cable Mode" eliminates the need for public or static IP addresses on the cellular modems - your remote device appears to be connected directly to your PC. There is no other device in the world like the PocketPORT!
